Our teachers: Venerable Ngawang

A Buddhist monk in traditional yellow and burgundy robes, kneeling with closed eyes and hands clasped in prayer, in front of a small table with prayer tools and a paper, surrounded by colorful wall hangings.

Venerable Ngawang was born in Lhasa, Tibet. At the age of 16 he chose to ordain as a monk and began his studies at Drepung Monastery in Tibet. In 1989, he made the journey from Tibet to India to continue his training at Drepung Monastery in South India. Venerable Ngawang arrived in Australia in 2019.

As a chant master, he is regularly called upon by Tibetan families in Victoria to lead traditional prayers, rituals, and rites associated with births, deaths, and holy days. We feel deeply fortunate that he has graciously accepted our request to share his skills in transmitting precious chants in our workshop series.
